Fruit Flavored Yogurt

Fruit flavored yogurts are a favorite for many dieters, but a lot of times they don’t know they’re digging into pint-sized cups of sugar each time they eat one.

You can purchase the sugar-free varieties, but then you’ll be taking in unwanted artificial sweeteners, which can be just as bad for you.

Instead, opt for plain Greek yogurt. Flavor it yourself by adding a handful of fresh berries.

 

Fat-Free Products

Next are any products that are made to be ‘fat free’. These often state that they are fat free on the label and proud of it.

But ask yourself, if the fat is removed, what is added? Something had to be added otherwise these just wouldn’t taste good.

The answer to that is sugar. Sugar has often been added to these foods, and helps them to still taste appealing. If you are trying to lose belly or midsection fat, sugar is just as bad — if not worse — than fat or calories.

 

Protein Bars

One food that you need to be careful about including in your diet is protein bars. These may seem like a great option since they do contain protein, and that’s what every diet tells you to eat more of.

But once again, you need to check that sugar content. Most protein bars are upwards of 15 grams of sugar or more per bar. Some measure in as high as 30 or even 40 grams of sugar depending on the calorie content.

In actuality, these aren’t much more than a glorified chocolate bar. While you can buy a few bars that do keep the sugar content very low (five grams or fewer per bar), you have to really search for them.

 

Alternative Sweeteners

The solution to reducing your sugar intake isn’t to use alternative artificial sweeteners such as Sweet’N Low, Equal, or Spenda. You should actually stay away from these because they may cause more harm to your body than good.

Sweeteners like these contain either saccharin, aspartame, or sucralose. Some side effects from what’s in these sweeteners are: may cause degeneration in critical nerve cells, imbalances in the brain, cancer, and yes make you GAIN weight! A good alternative sweetener is Stevia, which is a herb that doesn’t cause blood sugar spikes.

  4. Very informative, I love the post on probiotics I believe they play an important role on our health. Hidden sugars are in all sorts of foods we wouldn’t even think of. It takes me a long time to do grocery shopping these days as I like to read the list of ingredients in food. All in all liked your information and website very much.
